Liposuction is a straightforward technique that allows us to remove unwanted excess fat. In certain parts of our bodies, the number of fat cells does never change. Only the size of the cells changes. Diets have a small impact in these areas and only physical reduction of the number of cells by suction can successfully achieve this.
The result is that liposuction of this so-called "genetic" fat is therefore guaranteed and definitive.

However, liposuction can never replace a diet in the event of general obesity, although it will facilitate one.

Modern liposuction is a soft and almost trauma-free technique. It is performed in hospital on an out-patient basis. The type of anaesthetic depends on the patient's wishes and the quantity of fat drawn out. The scars are tiny. After the operation, a compressing corset has to be kept on for approximately one month. Bruising has
normally disappeared by the end of this period.

Pain is very personal issue, yet according to the majority of patients the operation is not really painful and some patients do not even take time off work. However, we do recommend taking things easy.
The result is 80% visible after one month, but the person needs to wait 3 months to obtain a 100% result.
During the first two months, the patient is often advised to undergo lymphatic draining, which lessens the time necessary for any swelling to disappear and enhances results.
Creams may be prescribed to improve the skin's appearance as liposuction only treats the fat and never the skin!

Lipofilling is a process that recovers the fat removed via liposuction and, after treating it, it can be re-injected into different parts of the body to increase lip size, to fill in wrinkles or dents in the skin, etc...

Two weeks at least before the operation, there are medications to avoid, specially aspirin and all the drugs containing acetylsalicylic acid: these drugs make bleed and can extend the surgery length.
If necessary, dolprone or Dafalgan or any other medication on a paracetamol basis can be used. The day before the admission to the hospital, the patient may have a bath with isobetadine which helps sterilizing the operation area and reduce the risk of infection. The umbilicus must be cleaned with cotton buds and isobetadine. The day before, or two days before the operation, a long consultation will take place, it will set up the "specifications" of the surgery.
We will carry out a morphing and if necessary, we will provide a girdle. Only then, the admission will occur. The patient will stay only during the day, and will check out before the evening. Upon the anaesthesist advice, she will leave. The girdle will stay in place for one month. It is strictly forbidden to remove it during the two first weeks, except in the toilets. Afterward, a daily shower can be taken without the girdle, but the patient must wear it between the showers.

The after effects of the surgery

The result is visible at 80% after one month, but one could wait three months in order to get a 100% result. During the first months, it's often recommended to carry out a lymphatic drainage, Vöder kind; it allows a faster deflation and an optimization of the results. Some creams are prescribed in order to improve the skin appearance since the liposuction treats only the fat and not the skin!

This surgery is not refundable by INAMI, therefore only the patient takes care of the fees. That is why this operation is carried out in an outpatient clinic. The costs depends on the importance of the operation.
